About me

Hello I am Gorkem who loves working with computers especially in web development (and gaming), mainly in the frontend area since it's where users are directly experiencing the product so it gives me the most satisfaction among all the web development steps. I also love history, astronomy, space & time and traveling through it.

I love challenges. I graduated as an Electrical & Electronics Engineer and at my first job, I was placed in a position where I am expected to design printed circuit boards for electronic cards. I wanted to be a software guy so I immediately changed my department and my embedded software developer career began. After some years, I noticed that I am more interested with web technologies and as a self-taught developer, I found a way to become a frontend developer which is a position with high satisfaction since the user interfaces that I am developing are used by millions of end users around the world.

I consider myself as a master in developing JavaScript, especially in the React & Next.js world since I love functional programming and SSR & CSR hydration. JavaScript is easy-to-learn but hard-to-master language because of its tricky nature so I prefer and like using TypeScript. I worked so much with client side global states like Redux, Zustand, Context API and react-query (one of my favorites since it syncs server-side states into client-side states perfectly with its built-in html cache mechanisms). I'm also very confident in styling web components using pure CSS, SCSS and my favorite is Tailwindcss, a utility-based approach that saves developers from generating classnames (naming is the hardest thing in programming you know), as well as its mobile-first approach. I also love CSS-in-JS solutions so Tailwind is the best suit.

In short, I am a tech guy who spent 5+ years in product teams as a developer and has lots of experiences with both the development & maintenance sides and customer relations side like an advanced technical support. I really like problem solving in any part of life and coding & debugging is the ultimate experience for it. I consider myself a good team member with good networking and communication skills and a sense of humor. On a team, I tend to help bring out a clearer sense of purpose and encourage clearer communication, resulting in better team results and a higher sense of satisfaction for all involved. I also love challenging new areas, exploring my new skills and trying to be the best of me.
